Fall is one of the best times to plant perennials, shrubs, trees and vines but what about vegetables? Surprisingly, even with a short, final warm season, you can successfully grow a productive Fall garden in Austin, Texas with a little preparation- think of it as a mini-spring season.

It’s June in the garden and In order to maximize your time I would not recommend starting seeds for a summer garden. Your best bet is to buy seedlings at a local organic nursery that you trust. Because the pests and heat are taking a toll on the rest of your garden you want to ensure your newly planting seedlings have a strong start once planted so make sure to choose the healthiest options.

I find summer to be the most rewarding time in the garden but it also takes a little more effort to maintain plant health and production when you are battling the heat and increased number of pests. But don’t let this discourage you! The summer is a great time to pull up your garden knickers and learn a thing or two. I leave every summer season with new knowledge to take into the next year.
